Explora Journeys' Explora II ship completes maiden voyage

Seven-night itinerary ended at Tarragona, Spain

The second in a planned fleet of six ships in the MSC Group stable has completed a seven-night maiden voyage to Tarragona in Spain via Sorrento, Lipari, Trapani, Siracusa and Valletta.

Ahead of the maiden sailing, Rosalba Giugni, founder and President of conservation organisation Marevivo Foundation, carried out the ribbon cutting for Explora II at the Italian port of Civitavecchia, near Rome. The event included a drone show (pictured) and a performance by singer Spandau Ballet's Tony Hadley.

Committed to preserving marine environments, Giugni was chosen to conduct the naming as a partner of the MSC Foundation and a mark of respect for her 35-year commitment to the protection of the world’s oceans.

Explora II and its sister ship Explora I will reposition to the Caribbean for the winter, before returning to run cruises in the western Med next summer.

MSC Group cruise division executive chairman Pierfrancesco Vago said: “Our vision began with the contemporary brand MSC Cruises where we developed a premium offer with MSC Yacht Club and from there we identified a further demand for luxury experiences at sea.

“With Explora Journeys we offer an unparalleled value proposition and a unique offering compared to other types of luxury holiday.

“By 2028 the Explora Journeys fleet will comprise six ships offering a spirit of luxurious ocean adventure visiting sought-after destinations, where our guests can expect the same high standards and quality service across our fleet, all over the globe.”
