Waldorf Astoria to launch luxury Nile River cruise

Waldorf Astoria to launch luxury Nile River cruise

Four and six-night luxury sailings available with personal concierge services

Waldorf Astoria is bringing its renowned elegant service to Africa’s longest and most storied river, the Nile.

A collaboration between Hilton and Middle East for Nile Cruisers, the Waldorf Astoria Nile River Experience promises to give guests a “spectacular view of Egypt”.

The move follows the launch of luxury Nile cruises by five-star hotel brand Oberoi, with four- and six-night sailings between Luxor and Aswan aboard two high-end dahabeahs (traditional Nile houseboats) starting late 2025.

Set to sail late 2026, the Waldorf Astoria Nile River Experience will also offer four and six-night luxury sailings, travelling down-river from Luxor to Aswan or up-river from Aswan to Luxor.

With private docks in both locations, travellers will have the chance to explore the river’s legendary sites including the Valley of the Kings, a burial ground for more than 60 pharaohs, the temples in Luxor and cultural attractions in Esna, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan.

The cruise ship will feature five decks and just 29 suites, each designed to provide an elegant retreat and offer sweeping views. Onboard too, there will be a fitness centre, a spa and various dining experiences, including Waldorf Astoria’s New York-inspired tea lounge and bar, Peacock Alley, a brasserie serving Egyptian, Mediterranean and international dishes, plus a rooftop deck.

Along the way, guests can enjoy various food and drink events, while dedicated personal concierges are on hand to curate experiences beyond the expected.

“Waldorf Astoria is entering an incredible new era of luxury, creating unforgettable experiences in sought-after destinations,” said Dino Michael, Hilton’s Senior Vice President and Global Head of Luxury Brands.

Demand for intimate and luxury cruises on the Nile is on the rise, with the full opening of Cairo's Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) expected to attract more visitors to Egypt.

From September 2025, Viking will sail new vessel, the 82-guest Viking Amun, complete with 41 staterooms, a pool and sun deck, and has plans to add five new ships in Egypt in the next two years, taking the fleet to 12 vessels.
