Centara opens second resort on reclaimed Maldives island

Book three nights and get fourth free at Centara Grand Lagoon

Opened on 1 April 2025, Centara Grand Lagoon joins sister resort Centara Mirage Lagoon on a private island in the Maldives’ North Male Atoll.

The two resorts form part of Thai operator Centara’s new reclaimed-island complex, The Atollia.

To celebrate the launch, you can book four nights for the price of three, or seven for the price of five on stays from 1 April to 15 October 2025 on bookings made by 30 June.

Just 45 minutes by speedboat from Malé, Centara Mirage Lagoon opened in November 2024, focused on families, while the just-opened Grand Lagoon is a more premium offering.

Centara Grand Lagoon features 142 beachfront and overwater residences and villas, made with sustainable design that blends into the Maldivian landscape.

Divided into sunrise and sunset view options, beach pool villas feature floor-to-ceiling windows and well-appointed bathtubs to capitalise on views. Each comes with a private pool and beach access. Perched above the crystal-clear waters, overwater villas offer direct access to the lagoon and have a private pool or deck and outdoor Jacuzzi

The pinnacle is the three-bedroom Sunset Overwater Pool Residence with its outdoor deck and pool, kitchenette and ocean vistas.

Grand Two Bedroom Beach Pool Villa

Guests staying in this accommodation or in the two-bedroom villas gain access to The Club with its dedicated pool, private beach and premium dining, from a buffet breakfast to afternoon tea and sunset tapas with wine pairings. Other privileges include VIP in-villa check-in and check-out and priority spa and dining reservations.

The resort has five restaurants and bars, with all-day dining venue The Gallery offering a choice of indoor or outdoor seating, tappan grills, flame tandoors, a chocolate bar and an Asian buffet with display cooking stations.

Guests can choose between multiple meal plans. As well as all-inclusive, full-board and half-board options focused on Grand Lagoon’s dining venues, they have the option to double their dining experiences with access to neighbouring resort Centara Mirage.

Guests can participate in programmes focused on specific wellness goals such as weight-loss or stress management, combining personalised menus and treatments, daily meditation and yoga classes.

JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island Resort, Maldives

The Maldives is witnessing a surge in luxury resort openings, with several new properties debuting in 2025. JW Marriott opened its second property in the archipelago in February, with JW Kaafu Atoll Island Resort featuring just 80 overwater and beachfront villas, each with a private pool, butler service and direct lagoon access.

This was followed by the opening of Ananea Madivaru, a resort with 110 villas across two private islands connected by an overwater jetty, as well as a vibrant coral reef, a cinema and overwater spa.

Arriving in Q4 2025, Al Mahra Maldives in the Laamu Atoll will offer 150 villas, including 100 water villas with private pools, three restaurants and an expansive water sports centre, while

Corinthia Maldives will span two islands and offer cutting-edge wellness facilities and five dining options inspired by the ocean.

The much anticipated Mandarin Oriental Bolidhuffaru Reef is set to debut in the South Male Atoll, offering 120 villas with private pools, six dining outlets, a watersports and dive center, and extensive wellness facilities.
