JW Marriott opens second property in the Maldives

Kaafu Atoll Island Resort features overwater villas, five dining venues and a Nikkei bar

JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island Resort is set to open its doors late January 2025.

The new property will be JW Marriott’s second in the Maldives,  joining the JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa in Shaviyani Atoll.

Located just 15 minutes by speedboat from Malé, the new resort features 80 villas, split between overwater and beachfront, and built with an eco-conscious design, including utilising solar energy.

Villas offer floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors that flood interiors with natural light and a colour palette that draws inspiration from the surroundings. Each villa comes with butler service, a private pool and outdoor lounge, Indian Ocean views and direct access to the lagoon for swimming and snorkelling.

There are five distinct dining venues, serving Asian, South American and Western cuisines, and using ingredients harvested from the resort’s JW Garden.

Highlights include Athiri, offering aged prime cuts cooked on a charcoal grill; Riva, serving modern Indian cuisine with Sri-Lankan and Maldivian flavours, and Pure, focused on sustainable, locally sourced ingredients.

Joining these is rooftop lounge bar Nikkei, where spicy tapas and Japanese-Peruvian inspired cocktails are on the menu.

Furnished with a steam room, sauna, relaxation pavilion and six treatment rooms, the overwater Spa by JW offers a vast array of treatments, from tailored aromatherapy experiences to freshwater mud mask facials and couples’ massage, and guests can create their own personalised body scrub at the Blending Bar.

The resort also delivers a range of experiences designed to immerse guests in the Maldivian environment, including whale shark-watching expeditions, diving and snorkeling tours and sunset speedboat rides.

Slated to open at the end of January 2025, this new property marks the eighth Marriott Bonvoy resort in the Maldives, alongside The St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, W Maldives and Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands.
