Saudi Arabia awarded first-ever Blue Flag beach

Bayfront in Al-Khobar achieves coveted accreditation

Bayfront Beach in Al Khobar has become Saudi Arabia’s first destination to receive the coveted Blue Flag certification, marking a significant step forward in the kingdom’s sustainable tourism ambitions.

Saudi joins the UAE as one of only two countries in the GCC to have Blue Flag beaches and marinas, with the emirates now home to more than 40 such sites.

Blue Flag is a globally recognised eco-label awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to beaches, marinas and tourism boats that meet stringent standards for environmental management, water quality, safety and visitor services.

Nestled along the Al-Khobar Corniche on Saudi’s east coast, Bayfront is more than just a beach, it's an entire waterfront development with eco-friendly infrastructure designed to transform the local tourism landscape.

Covering more than 100,000 square meters, this new destination brings together contemporary design and natural beauty with landscaped public squares, a sports promenade, designated zones for beach activities and modern cafes and restaurants.

The project also includes a 1,600-square-metre private island, an exclusive beach club and mix of indoor and outdoor leisure facilities designed to appeal to both residents and international visitors.

Mayor of the Eastern Region Municipality, Fahad Aljubair, described Bayfront as “a symbol of Saudi leadership’s commitment to improving public spaces and supporting the tourism economy,” adding that the project is a key driver of sustainable development and economic diversification in the region.

Ajdan Real Estate’s CEO, Mohammed Al-Otaibi, added: “We will follow the Blue Flag requirements to increase the quality of services in the project's facilities and enhance the region's beach experience by developing an extraordinary destination to attract visitors to Al-Khobar.”
