Top official says 2030 tourism target looks realistic
Qatar is on track to achieve its goal of welcoming six million visitors in a year by 2030, according to tourism officials.
“Qatar is making steady progress in the tourism sector and in promoting it as a unique tourist destination,” said Visit Qatar CEO Abdulaziz Ali Al Mawlawi.
According to Al Mawlawi, the number of visitors in 2022 was about 2.4 million and that was when the country hosted the FIFA World Cup.
“After the World Cup, the number of visitors crossed four million. The first eight months of this year, 2024, saw around three and a half million visitors,” he said.
Qatar is due to host a number of events and activities in the next four months that are also anticipated to attract visitors from within the region or abroad.

“We are expected to exceed the number of visitors in 2024 compared to those in 2023. We are likely to meet the target of attracting six million visitors in a year in the coming few years,” Al Mawlawi added.
Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy for 2024-2030 outlines the country’s roadmap for the next phase of its development.
Among its key focus areas, the strategy highlights the tourism sector as a pivotal component in driving the country’s sustainable economic growth.
