Saudia airline launches Riyadh-Vienna service

National flag carrier operates three weekly flights to Austrian capital

Saudi Arabia’s national airline Saudia has launched direct flights connecting Riyadh and Vienna in Austria, four times a week.

This move follows the airline’s successful seasonal flights to Vienna from Jeddah, and brings Saudia's network count to more than 100 destinations.

Flights depart King Khalid International Airport (RUH) at 10:40, arriving at Vienna International Airport (VIE) at 15:10. The return flights depart VIE at 14:30 and arrives at RUH at 23:00. The flights operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The route is part of Saudia's Air Connectivity Program (ACP), which aims to increase connectivity to attract international tourists, investors and business travellers.

Austria's cosmopolitan capital is a popular destination for Middle East travellers, drawn by its rich cultural heritage, including a lively arts scene and more than 100 museums and galleries.

Saudi's budget airline Flynas already offers direct flights from Riyadh to Vienna three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and in December 2024, low-cost-carrier Air Arabia began its direct service between Sharjah in the UAE and Vienna.

Vienna is one of 11 new destinations announced by Saudia for 2025, Venice in Italy, Nice in France, Malaga in Spain, Larnaca in Cyprus and Athens and Heraklion in Greece.

Closer to home, Saudia is adding El Alamein in Egypt, Antalya in Turkiye and Salalah in Oman. Beyond the region, the airline will roll out a service between Jeddah and Bali, its second regular route to Indonesia after Jakarta.

Saudia's expansion comes as the carrier posted a 16% year-on-year increase in international passenger traffic in 2024, aligning with the Kingdom’s National Tourism Strategy, which targets 150 million annual visitors by 2030.
