Dubai, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Istanbul among most searched locations

Winter is fast approaching and travellers from the GCC are looking to Cairo, Jeddah, Istanbul, London and Dubai as their preferred destinations, according to online travel marketplace Wego.

With the end-of-year travel season in their sights, residents and expats in the GCC are making plans for vacations or trips back home.

According to Wego's search data, Cairo is the most popular city for GCC travellers with Jeddah, Istanbul, Cochin, Bangkok, Lahore, London, Dubai and Kuwait rounding out the top most-searched cities.

The data suggests that much of the interest in the top destinations stems from the substantial Egyptian and Indian expat populations in the GCC.

Egypt and India expats are expected to take advantage of the year-end break to return home.

The research also highlights a growing interest among GCC travellers in Europe as a prime destination for festive year-end getaways.

While London remains a favourite, thanks to the ease of entry for GCC citizens who can obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), other European cities are gaining popularity too.

Moscow appears to be an appealing choice, along with cities like Baku and Tbilisi, which are popular due to their short distance from the GCC.

Additionally, cosmopolitan cities like Milan and Paris continue to attract travellers looking to indulge in world-class shopping, fine dining, and festive celebrations.
