While Beirut will be familiar to most travellers in the region, Gabala in Azerbaijan is still something of an unknown quantity.
Describing Gabala as a "hidden gem destination", Johan Eidhagen, Managing Director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, said it was an "ideal retreat for travellers seeking outdoor adventures, green plains, snowy hills and deep historical heritage."
Set against pine forests and Nohur Lake, the city in the northwest of Azerbaijan is a year-round escape offering nature, adventure and relaxation. There is skiing in winter at the Tufandag Mountain Resort and in summer visitors can enjoy hiking, paragliding, cable car rides and luxury spas. There are also archaeological sites such as Chukhur Gabala that highlight the region’s rich history.
